What Is Hand Block Printing?
India’s 700-Year-Old Textile Craft — Preserved in Every Nami Piece
Hand block printing is a centuries-old textile art form rooted in India. It involves hand-carving intricate designs into wooden blocks, dipping them in natural dyes, and stamping each motif onto soft cotton—layer by layer. At Nami, we work with skilled artisans to preserve this slow, intentional process and bring it to luxury fashion.

Step by Step – The Making of Your Garment
Every Print Begins with a Human Touch

Sketching the Pattern
Designs are drawn by hand, often inspired by nature, heritage architecture, or antique textiles.

Carving the Block
Skilled artisans use chisels to carve each shape into sheesham wood. This takes hours or even days depending on complexity.

Prepping the Block with Dye
The block is dipped into a tray of natural or azo-free pigment dyes.

Stamping the Fabric
Each motif is placed one by one, requiring immense focus and rhythm. A single dress may require 1,000+ individual presses.

Drying, Washing & Setting the Print
The printed cotton is sun-dried, washed, and stitched into your Nami silhouette.
Why It Matters
This Isn’t Just Fabric. It’s a Story in Every Thread.
When you wear a Nami dress or robe, you carry the story of heritage, intention, and artistry. Unlike digitally printed fast fashion, our hand-stamped cotton garments hold the texture and soul of the human hands that made them. Every “imperfection” is part of the art. Every piece is truly yours alone as we make a limited number of pieces.
